8.4 Financial Choices: Final Round

People were asked to imagine the following problem and to answer the question.

Manuel is a 17-year-old senior in high school. He is working part-time for minimum wage at a convenience store. He is offered a full time position with a raise and health benefits. He has already been accepted to college. His father wants him to take the full time position because it will help support the family. His mother wants him to not take the position because she wants him to focus on doing well in school.

What would you do if you were in this situation?

A) If I were in this situation of having to choose my studies or work full time I would choose my studies. I believe in focusing on my studies I can do many great things. I would be able to further my education and accomplish things for myself. I know I would make my mom proud in continuing my education because the better education that I get I will get a better paying job in the long run. Yes I want to help with my family in bringing in the extra income and help my dad with some responsibilities but I think in the long run my dad would understand that my education should come first. B) I believe in any position one should put himself before anything or anyone else. If i were to find myself in Manuel's situation I would focus on school. In the long run Manuel can get a better job from focusing on school and then he could help the family more. In conclusion, I believe that Manuel should proceed and continue focusing on school
