The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will help determine the amount of federal aid a college/university can offer you. Since most students are considered as "DEPENDENT" on the parent, discussions with a parent are a MUST!  Step 4 (of 7 on the FAFSA) is about the PARENT and it must be filled out by MOST students' parent(s).

Your parent will need to answer questions about things YOU may hearing or reading about for the first time. Invite a parent(s) to go through the activity in the form below so that they can become aware about things they will need to report on.

Questions 75-79

Are you familiar with what each of the benefits listed below provide? If not, ask your parents if they know. On the FAFSA,  you and your parent(s) will report if you receive any of them.

75. Medicaid or Supplemental  Security Income (SSI)

76. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

77. Free or Reduced Price School Lunch

78. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

79. Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, & Children (WIC)

Questions 80-89

Your parent will need to answer a few simple questions about their prior year income tax return and the then they can use  the online IRS Data Retrieval tool to easily transfer line item amounts from their return to the FAFSA.

Questions 90-94

In order to properly report, talk with a parent so that they know that they will need to provide any of the following that are applicable to them:

90. Total of Cash, savings and checking account

91. Finances and real estate investments net worth--Your parent might have had to               borrow money on some of these investments so they report only the "Value - Loan Debt"
